Valerie Toumayan

About

Valerie Toumayan is a Graphic-Motion designer / Filmmaker based in Paris, France.

Her love for music led her to film lots of musicians live and acoustic, building up a pretty nice collection of concerts.

In 2010 started her interest in the swedish music scene, leading her to make a documentary about some of the finest artists from Stockholm, in a documentary named "Sounds of Stockholm".

She met in one week, 13 artists all around the city and film acoustic versions of their songs. A beautiful portrait of them and Stockholm.

Then in spring/summer 2011 she decided to create a special website dedicated to the swedish music scene, with more acoustic sessions, and more new artists to discover. ilovesweden.net was born in October 2011

This film was part of the ilovesweden.net project in the beginning. In June 2011 Valerie spent 10 days in Stockholm to film the new acoustic sessions that would make the website. She's been wanting to work with Linnea for a long time, and have known her for many years, when she played with Ane Brun who she also filmed a lot.

Valerie always imagined Linnea playing "The Ocean" on a cliff by the sea. For her, she wanted to make something more special, not just film a simple session like the other artists she has filmed, she wanted to make a movie. Find a story and make something different.

So when she talked to her about the idea, and showed her some music films references, Linnea came up with a pretty good storyline.
The whole story was well detailed with the different chapters/songs and the choice of places that inspired her to write her music.
They had 3 days to film everything. Valerie had some ideas on how she was seeing things, but it was mostly improvisation when they were at the different locations.

"Her music is so special and very cinematographic in a way, that's why I wanted to make a more elaborated project, to engage the attention of people ; combine her impressive music style with a different approach of music videos, and create a mysterious atmosphere.
Everything has been recorded live, it's like a mini concert for the viewers.

This is my first short film, and I really hope to make more project like this, films/documentaries in the future. I think it's a good new way to show and promote music. Making special video projects around artists and their music".

Valerie is currently living and working in Paris as a freelance motion designer, and hope to find a job in this field or video productions in Stockholm, to get a change to move there someday. You can contact her for any type of project if you are interested in a collaboration.
